April is Daffodil Month... Cancer awareness month.

      Published April, 2014

Though cancer treatment modalities have improved treatment outcome, cancer is still on the rise in North America. Cancers hit people younger and with more force than before. We can treat these increasingly high numbers of cancers more effectively, and with far less side effects than ever. However, we shouldn't have to treat them because people shouldn’t get them! One type of cancer that is on the increase is liver cancer. Indeed, according to Canadian statistics the annual increase rate is 3.6% per year for men and 1.7% for women. U.S. statistics are no better. Though research suggests that genetics is a minor factor in the development of cancer, no more than 15%, environment and lifestyle may account for as much as 80%, a disproportionate amount of research funds are invested in genetics rather than lifestyle and environment.
