      Description

Cardiomyopathy or myocardiopathy (literally "heart muscle disease") covers a variety of diseases which cause the myocardium, or heart muscle, to malfunction.

Cardiomyopathy generally refers to diseases affecting the heart muscle.

From a naturopathic perspective, cardiomyopathy can be congenital or acquired. In most cases, the heart muscle is affected by an overly acidic diet, free radicals or, often, a magnesium deficiency.Though mush has been written about the dangers of calcium deficiency, it should be noted that excessive dietary calcium or high levels of calcium as a supplement, are associated with an increased risk of strokes.

      Dietary Considerations

Eliminate processed foods, fried foods and saturated fats. Adopt an alkaline diet and consume sufficient protein while avoiding too much animal protein. Make sure your lunch and dinner consist of 50% to 60% vegetables.
