Bloating
Includes
Bloating, flatulence and gas.
Description
There are different causes of intestinal bloating. Tympanites is abdominal bloating due to excess digestive gas. Bloating can also be caused by food intolerances (see our article on Food Allergies), bacterial or fungal fermentation, or an inflammation due to gastrointestinal trauma.
In most cases, bloating is due to a food intolerance, a problem related to digestive enzyme production, decreased stomach acidity, or reduced intestinal flora. In some cases, particularly when fats play a role, it is due to a poorly functioning liver.
Dietary Considerations
Avoid wheat, simple sugars and dairy products to determine whether they play a role. Avoid fats in order to assess if the symptoms are due to sluggish liver.
